An Approach to Challenging Forensic Science Evidence ISB #21-5410

Description
Jennifer Friedman, Federal Defender Capital Habeas Unit for the Central District of Los Angeles

Forensic evidence has become a mainstay of criminal prosecutions. Jurors expect it, and prosecutors rely on it. However, much of the forensic “science” offered as evidence has scant scientific foundation. This presentation will focus on how to investigate and develop a challenge to the forensic evidence in your case with an eye toward understanding the underlying science, or lack thereof, and using that knowledge to strategically challenge it.
